Burdett Trust for Nursing

The Burdett Trust for Nursing is the UK’s largest grant-giving charity dedicated to nursing. We have been privileged to collaborate with the Trust’s CEO and communications team to define, develop and deliver a new identity, website and communications materials.

The challenge

The Trust’s newly appointed CEO and communications team asked us to work closely with them to review their identity and communications strategy, ensuring it reflects the extraordinary care and support nurses provide to communities, while also highlighting Burdett’s role in empowering nurses to create lasting impact.

“The DS team has brought our new website and identity to life with a cheerful energy and great design expertise. It has been a joy to work together and we love what they have created for us. It is fresh, clean and engaging – exactly what we needed.”

Professor Clare Cable, Chief Executive, Burdett Trust for Nursing

What we did

We developed a comprehensive identity guide that outlines how their strategy should be implemented across every touchpoint, through both the quality of their language and the clarity of their visual communications.

We also reviewed their existing website and defined a new direction that brings together the multiple strands of their work, including their film hub, project resources, fellowships and the globally recognised ‘Nursing Now Challenge’.

The updated website gives visitors – whether potential grant recipients or funding partners – access to tools that support applications, learn about Burdett’s impact and explore the history, investment strategy and governance that underpin the charity’s work.

Our work included conducting video interviews with grant recipients, which we have turned into success stories that Burdett can share on their website and across social media. These conversations – featuring nurses from the UK, Africa, Asia and the United States – highlighting the geographical scope of Burdett’s work and its response to diverse community needs. They illustrate how the Trust is supporting nursing leadership, education and community outreach on a global scale.

“I’ve helped to initiate patient focused groups so that patients could speak to other patients in the waiting room before we even start our clinic, just to discuss their conditions and share tips.”

Nicola Dunlop, Nurse consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London

“We’re so used to looking after everybody else that one of the things I hope that comes through is that nurses think more about their own health.”

Michaela Nuttall, Associate in Nursing

Impact

We are continuing to support the Trust’s ongoing communications through the design and delivery of stationery, reports, social media assets and newsletter templates to help the team reinforce the values and relevance of Burdett to the wider nursing community.

Over the coming year, we will be measuring the impact of these efforts to ensure they continue to drive meaningful engagement and reinforce Burdett’s mission.
