Vivensa Foundation – Identity, website, film and strategic design

Vivensa Foundation is the new name for Dunhill Medical Trust – an established charity who, for over 30 years, has been helping UK academic and clinical researchers understand and treat age-related diseases and frailty as well as support improved care in the community.

We’ve been working with the leadership team since 2019, firstly by reimagining their identity and website and then by improving the ways that they communicated their work to the research community and the wider world.

“Our brief was probably the most challenging I've ever given to a creative agency. But the Design Science team made every effort to understand us… It felt like a true partnership.”

Susan Kay, Chief Executive, Dunhill Medical Trust

What we did

We worked with the CEO and leadership team to design a new visual identity and to re-imagine how they communicate the work they support through their funding.

Our discovery workshop included workshops with the team to understand their aspirations and fears. We explored a number of design directions, developing new language and visual material to reflect their strategy and ethos. This led to the design of a new identity that drew inspiration from old rivers and the way that oxbow lakes create rich, complex and diverse ecosystems, symbolising the idea of ageing well and capturing the spirit and range of Vivensa’s work through ideas.

Our visual identity included the design of a flexible logotype that works across different digital and physical platforms and our guidelines help the in-house team manage communications across their website, social media, annual reports and physical stationery.

We designed, built - and maintain - their website ensuring that it's easy to navigate for their funding and research community. The platform explains how Vivensa supports researchers, makes it easy to apply for and manage funding, and shares their work in action. We also developed a microsite to support the Vivensa Academy, a new initiative that provides a place for leaders, aspiring leaders and innovators in ageing-related research.

Annual report

We produce the annual reports each year

“Design Science took the time to go beyond just designing something that ‘looked good’ – they were keen to really understand our ethos and principles. We asked a lot of them and they’ve been highly responsive.”

Oliver Soutar, Grants Officer, Dunhill Medical Trust

Our work continues today, with the production of a film to share the work of the Foundation and to engage new audiences in the challenge of supporting everyone in the challenge of ageing well.

‘I'm really happy with it! I think it beautifully captures the diverse voices and spirit of inclusivity that define the Vivensa Foundation, as well as the significance of the projects it supports. It’s truly been a privilege to contribute to something so meaningful’

Dr Elisa Martelletti, RNID Research Fellow, King’s College London
