We are a team of designers, writers and technologists working with associates from science, health and education.

Director

Anne is a designer, educator and writer with over 25 years’ experience in design communications. She studied Typography & Graphic Communication at the University of Reading, having previously taken A-levels in maths, biology, chemistry and art – originally expecting to follow her family's scientific career path.

Anne began her career at leading London design agencies before founding O-SB Design in 2001. A decade later, she launched Design Science in response to the widespread lack of communication design in science, healthcare and education.

She has lectured at institutions including the Royal College of Art, Central Saint Martins, UCL, Imperial College, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine,  British Science Association, the British Library and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Internationally, she has spoken at Konstfack University in Stockholm, SCI:COM in Ireland, the Goethe Institute in Krakow and the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw.

Anne served as a Project Monitor for the Wellcome Trust’s Inspiring Science Fund (2019–2021). She is the author of The New Handmade Graphics (RotoVision, 2003), which explores how designers combine analogue and digital techniques to reduce reliance on the computer. Her writing has appeared in Eye magazine and for organisations such as Phaidon, the Cheltenham Science Festival, the Wellcome Trust, the British Science Association and the British Council.
